Patient Advocates
At just 14 years old, Zahara, a resilient warrior battling sickle cell disease, has navigated the halls of hospitals more times than she can count. Zahara’s mother, Kesha, is convinced that the key to unlocking a cure for her daughter’s condition lies in the ongoing advancements of sickle cell research. In August of 2019, Zahara took the stage as a panelist at the NHLBI Sickle Cell Research Meeting, where she engaged with a diverse audience of scientists, researchers, and pharmaceutical leaders, all united in their mission to expand clinical trial opportunities for those affected by sickle cell disease. Together, Zahara and Kesha tirelessly champion the cause of sickle cell disease research, raising awareness and driving progress, all in pursuit of the day when Zahara can embrace the opportunity to ‘live her best life.’
