Marya Shegog

Director of Health Equity & Programs

Lazarex Cancer Foundation

Dr. Shegog brings decades of experience in cultivating health equity in diverse communities. She provides community insight to improve and expand services, evaluate programs, manage grants, and work collaboratively to secure additional funding. She is the Director of Health Equity and Programs at the Lazarex Cancer Foundation, where she works in partnership with multiple institutions to implement the Lazarex Cancer Wellness HUBs in West Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco East Bay.
Dr. Shegog has managed and implemented public and private funding and acted as a grant reviewer for HRSA, NIH, CDC, and many state health departments. She serves on select community-based nonprofit boards of directors of organizations seeking to contribute to creating Health Equity in the United States.

Dr. Shegog earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Hampton University and a Masters (MPH), Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Public Health, and a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies from the University of South Carolina and completed a Post Doctoral Fellowship at the UNLV Center for Health Disparities Research. Dr. Shegog is a lifelong learner and has continued to further her education by expanding her knowledge, skills, and practices.
Dr. Shegog is passionate about creating health equity through action, education, and research. The healthcare, cancer, and disease narrative in the United States is ever-changing, and Dr. Shegog works diligently to ensure that the story reflects everyone’s experience by aggressively integrating and diversifying the story.
