Mayo Clinic

Sunnie Confiado is the Operations Manager for the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCCCC) Florida. She has devoted over two decades of her career working at academic medical centers and higher education research institutions. Ms. Confiado became a Registered Nurse in 2004 and is credentialed in Clinical Genomic Nursing (CGN). Early in her career, she spent time as a nurse in several units including SICU/MICU, Urology, Case Management, Breast Clinic and Surgery Center (Operating Room, Pre-Op, PACU and 23-hour stay). She then spent 8 years supporting the Department of Clinical Genomics and transitioned from Nurse Manager supporting clinical operations to a Program Manager supporting research operations in 2020. She managed protocol development and study conduct for the Center for Individualized Medicine (CIM) and navigated the clinical trials portfolio through the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic including operationalizing the large, decentralized clinical research study Tapestry (NCT05212428).  In 2022, Ms. Confiado transitioned to the Operations Manager role for MCCCC Florida with her primary focus on study conduct for all cancer-related clinical trials. Following the great resignation, she has rebuilt the Cancer Study Unit that now exceeds 100 members, successfully stabilized the research team staffing ratio, strengthened the clinical research coordinator career ladder, and established an audit readiness team. Sunnie continues to provide operational clinical research oversight over all cancer-related modalities, diseases, and programs including Hematology Oncology proper, Phase 1 clinical trials unit, Community Clinical Trials Administration (CCTA), Breast Center, Cellular Therapy, as well as Cancer CARE Beyond Walls (CCBW) delivering cancer care in the patient home (NCT05969860). She is also supporting the Radiation Oncology team that is building and operationalizing the first Carbon Ion Therapy (Heavy Particle Program) in North America and the first carbon ion therapy Mayo Clinic led trial in the United States (NCT05033288).
