Mike Watson brings over 16 years of experience in ophthalmology clinical research, spanning clinical operations, site development, and business development. He currently serves as Vice President of Therapeutic Development at Ora, where he previously built and led the company’s strategic Ophthalmic Site Network and Patient Solutions department. There, he encouraged his team to listen closely to the challenges faced by research sites and develop creative solutions that made trials easier to run and more successful.
Mike has supported both new and experienced sites in overcoming barriers to entry, streamlining operations, and maximizing performance. Under his leadership, Ora’s global network grew rapidly, including the expansion of its Retina Site Network. Earlier in his career, as Senior Director of Clinical Operations for Ora’s Anterior Segment Division, he oversaw more than 80 Phase 1–4 clinical trials and established strategic partnerships with over 40 ophthalmic practices. These practices went on to outperform traditional sites by up to 300 percent, underscoring the value of strong, trusted relationships.
Recognized as a subject matter expert in designing corneal disease trials, Mike continues to work closely with investigators and sponsors to ensure studies are both scientifically rigorous and operationally feasible for sites.
Based in northern Massachusetts, Mike is also an avid runner and coach, as well as a proud husband and father of two daughters.
